Lon Las Cymru

Lon Las Cymru - Welsh National Cycle Route

Lon Las Cymru

Sustrans National Cycle Network Route 8 and 42.

Lon Las Cymru cycle route, 257miles from Holyhead to Cardiff.  Opened in 1995, the route runs down the whole length of Wales and is one of the toughest of all the long distance routes on the National Cycle Network.  Taking in three mountain ranges you are rewarded with some of the most stunning scenery in the British Isles, quiet rural lanes of Anglesey, the majestic woodlands of Coed-y-Brenin Forest, the atmospheric Mawddach Estuary, the picturesque valley of the River Wye, followed between Llangurig and Glasbury and the panoramic views enjoyed from Gospel Pass on the route through the Black Mountains.  An excellent challenge for anyone looking for a spectacular 8 day cycle holiday.

The route has a choice of two finishing points which offer very different final sections for the ride: the Cardiff option largely traffic-free Taff Trail from Brecon via the rich industrial heritage of the South Wales valleys to the new developments around Cardiff Bay; the Chepstow finish remains rural in character all the way to the end with the route meandering its way along the lanes, hills and woodlands of Monmouthshire

What bikes to use? Traditional touring bikes are an excellent choice, if you are carrying your own luggage, and the tyres will cope with some of the rough terrain.  Lightweight road bikes, will be fine if you don't need to carry your own luggage, but you will need to go very carefully on the rough tracks (there are a few), or carry your bikes over these sections.  MTBs, if you are used to a mountain bike, we would recommend you fit road tyres and perhaps bar ends, to give a more comfortable cycling position.  If you choose one of our cycling holidays, all the bikes and equipment are included.  Alternatively, bring your own favourite bike and we still offer the emergency rescue service and transportation.

We offer organised cycling holidays that follow  the Lon Las Cymru in Mid Wales ... you can start any day you like. The price of your cycling holiday Includes: all accommodation, brilliant routes, luggage transported, quality bikes and equipment and our award winning service.
