Lon Las Cymru - Welsh National Cycle Route
An iconic cycle route across the whole of Wild Wales. Two national parks and three mountain ranges, make this route a challenge for any cyclist. But our route planning, luggage moving and fantastic accommodation make this a real pleasure, to complete the challenge in 8 days. Total mileage 241 - 282 miles

Day 1: Holyhead to Menai Bridge. 30 miles. Grade: moderate
Arrive at Petchfield Farm, you are then taken to the start of the Lon Las Cymru. Easy cycling from Holy Island & Holyhead through Anglesey farmland with ancient cromlechs and hill forts & sea views all the way.  Stay at the Menai Bridge with great views across the Menai Straits

Day 2: Menai Bridge to Porthmadog. 37 miles. Grade: Moderate
Over the Menai Bridge to pick up the traffic free Lon Las Menai to the walled town & world famous Caernarfon Castle.  Then south to the birthplace of Lloyd George at Llanystumdwy and your second fabulous castle of Criccieth.  Finish at the historic harbour at Porthmadog, home to Ffestiniog, the world’s oldest narrow gauge railway

Day 3: Porthmadog to Machynlleth. 44 - 67 miles. Grade: Difficult
Choice of routes. Along the coast to Harlech Castle and the traffic free Mawddach Trail from Barmouth.  Or head inland through Snowdonia for forest tracks & lakes. In the afternoon opt for the shorter route through Corris to visit The Centre for Alternative Technology and the historic town of Machynlleth, or stay on the coastal road.

Day 4: Machynlleth to Rhayader. 39 miles. Grade: Strenuous
Through the heart of Mid Wales, across the hills, wild moorland and upland farms, to the highest point of the ride (509 m). Then follow the River Wye downstream to the market town of Llanidloes and Rhayader. Rhayader has the outstanding wildlife event of Red Kite Feeding at Gigrin farm.

Day 5: Rhayader to Hay on Wye: 39 - 54 miles Grade: moderate. Option to cycle around the spectacular Elan Valley dams and Lakes (18 miles). Then head south along the River Wye to Hay on Wye.  Hay is an internationally renowned book town with an annual Literary Festival, a castle and great places to eat.

Day 6: Hay on Wye to Abergavenny. 25 miles. Grade: Strenuous
The Gospel Pass, through the Black Mountains, is a formidable cycling achievement rewarded with a 10 mile downhill ride past the remote Llanthony Abbey to Abergavenny.

Day 7: Abergavenny to Chepstow. 27 miles. Grade: Difficult.
Up and down the River Usk to the dramatic bridge at the market town of Usk. Then on to your final destination and castle, at the medieval town of Chepstow on the Severn Estuary.

Day 8: Chepstow to Petchfield Farm. Explore Chepstow, then a taxi for you and the bikes back to our base at Petchfield Farm.
