Cider orchards cycle tour - Wheely Wonderful Cycling

This cycle tour takes you along the water meadows of the River Arrow, and through the picturesque villages of Pembridge, Weobley, Eardisland and Kingsland. You are surrounded by old fashioned cider orchards, hop fields and quiet country lanes, perfect for cycling. Cider tasting at Dunkerton’s Cider Mill. Lovely gardens at Croft Castle and Berrington Hall (National Trust) to visit on your last day.

Easy to moderate cycling with the occasional short steep bit. Total 36, 42 or 52 miles. Our special route guides and maps offer lots of alternatives.

Arrive at your accommodation for your first nights stay in Ludlow. Ludlow is a medieval fortified town with a magnificent Norman castle. Lots of things to see and do, good inns and restaurants, including two with Michelin stars.

Day 1. Petchfield Farm to Kingsland. Choice of routes 24 to 37 miles (38 - 59 km). Follow the Lugg & Arrow valleys (one short hilly section) through half-timbered villages, surrounded by hop fields and orchards. Herefordshire is famed for its cider production, every farm has a cider press. See how it all works and try some cider at Dunkerton’s Cider Farm, in Pembridge. May is the time to see the blossom, summer to enjoy the cider and autumn to see it all made.

Day 2. Kingsland to Petchfield Farm. 12 -15 miles (19 - 24 km). Return to Petchfield Farm via the gardens of the National Trust properties of Croft Castle or Berrington Hall. Both places have special orchards with local varieties & run apple events in the cider making season. Finishing any time in the afternoon, back at Petchfield Farm.
